A guitar should be purchased with due care to avoid any problems with it in future. Identifying a good instrument is an important guitar lesson.

Should you purchase a new or an old instrument? You should consider purchasing an old instrument only if you trust the source. The sound quality of musical instruments generally improves with playing, which is a plus point for an old instrument. Fret Board - This is the piece glued over the neck on which strings are pressed to play chords or individual notes. The distance between fret board and strings is critical. If the strings are too close you do not get “clean” notes. On the other hand if the strings are too far away you have to press harder to play the notes causing greater strain to your fingers. Also, the string gets stretched while playing. Ideally, pressing the strings over the fret board should not stretch it. But if the strings are too far above the fret board, they get sufficiently stretched while being pressed to change the original tuning of the string.

Strings - You can have a choice of strings made of different material. They come in two broad categories - metallic and nylon strings. Nylon strings are easier on the finger tips. There are also “heavy” and “light” strings which vary in cross section. All these strings have different sound quality and “feel” while playing them. You can take your pick.

The position of strings on the guitar is also an important criterion. Finger sizes vary widely in individuals. Your fingers should comfortably reach and press the last string. The distance between the strings, and the width of the fret board should match with the size of your fingers.

Tuning Heads and Posts - For each string there is one set of tuning post and head. They stretch the string for tuning it when you turn the tuning head and keep the string in that stretched position for playing it. You should ensure that the movement of each tuning head should is smooth, and the tuning post retains the stretched string. The string should not become loose while playing.

After you have considered all these points you should play the instrument, or get the salesperson to play it. See how it sounds, how it feels. You should be satisfied with its overall performance before you decide to buy it. When you buy a good guitar which is to your liking you will be motivated to take you guitar lessons more seriously.

Can we land the space shuttle on the moon? Some say it is impossible, but not all. One idea floated in an online think tank recently was to set up an aircraft carrier style arresting hook and allow the space shuttle to land on a flat area or semi hard run way. Of course such a crazy stunt could be risky, but what if it could be done?

One guest to the online think tank thought for sure it could not work because a Space Shuttle would be in orbit around the moon at 530 meters per second and stated; “That’s just a wee bit fast for an arrestor hook, or anything vaguely similar.”

Ah, but who says it has to be vaguely similar? When an idea such as this is thrown out in the abstract form. One needs to think of how to make it work and not only why it won’t. Having built many devices, re-designed equipment and tried and yes failed many times, I always found it interesting that people would say something would never work and then we would always find a way with a few improvements to make it work. It might be nice to have a such a device on the moon in the future to catch robotic cargo loads. Perhaps drop a hook like an anchor and have a friction inertia device slow it down and in doing so, collect energy to charge batteries to run other systems.

Sure we can do better or use other methods to bring things to the moon, but we already have the Space Shuttle assets. This idea is intriguing and such thought might propel a new design for something else later even more important. I think I should make a concept sketch with several other possible applications for this and just put them on the web for idea sake, someone looking for another solution may see it and use the basics for something else.

You know you could have an airborne arresting situation where it did not involve the surface of the moon, but slowed down the shuttle or whatever was visiting and simply have an arm at the end to gently set it on the surface in one piece and that way if the system failed you simply abort and go around. If it was working fine the arm extends and sets it down.

Now then and just thinking out loud with solutions to your 530 meters per second speed of landing. Why not discharge gas directly above the 12 meter AGL glide path and use a gas we do not want from mining operations, then excite those molecules with sound and cause a thickening event, slowing the space craft down and allowing for some flight dynamics and ground cushion. Now it works?

So for a think tank site, that idea stands, with some obvious needed added components. Many people have great ideas or thoughts, which lead to other thoughts and each thought should be processed and considered in order to propel new innovations and not all the old stuff which does not work. Most of those who call themselves believers, profess that they are afraid of God. What does this mean? Let us talk more about this. Are they really afraid of God? The truth is that we are afraid of real people and not God. Except very few of us, most of us don’t always remember the presence of God at all the places and during all the times. Take a marriage conducted alone in a temple by a couple. Who was the witness? God. But if one of the partner denies that marriage, or decides to keep the marriage a secret, can anything be done by the other partner? Nothing. Except praying to God, who was the witness, the other partner can do nothing. Because no human being was the witness. Was the partner who denied or chose to keep total secrecy and lied about the marriage to society afraid of God? No.

This is very unfortunate, but true. Liars and those who believe in deceiving others and themselves are not afraid of God, but only of society. For them God’s powers count for nothing. May God bless such cheats, because only He can save them from their treachery. There is a small Indian story of a teacher. Once he gave all his pupils a slip of paper and asked them to return after reading it at a place where no one was present. One of the pupil did not return till late evening. The teacher went in search for the boy, and found him in a corner of the jungle. He asked him about the reason of not reading what was written on the paper, and not returning. The boy replied- Holy Sir, you instructed me to read this at a place where no one is present. But I find that God is present everywhere. So where do I read this? The teacher applauded the boy for his faith and learning the truth.

The right way of living is to remember the presence of God at all the place and during all the times. The right way to live is to be afraid of God, and no human being.
