We all know what this means. It is the holiday of sugar that is transformed into candy.
This holiday is fun, it’s really all about getting different customs but it’s more for the kids I think. I remember that we as kids we had different types of projects in school, prior to, like making masks and cards for our friends. I remember that we all looked forward to it, and tried really hard to make our parents buy us new costumes for every year. We kids could hope to become a beautiful princess or a fierce pirate for one night.
In other countries it is a completely different holiday and it’s more spiritual. In Mexico for example it’s celebrated on December 2nd on “all saints day”. There the customs are completely different. The belief is all families or people that have had a “loved one” that has passed on to a better life, on that night they come back to eat. So their foods are prepared, along with other goodies like desserts, pies, bread, fruit and other stuff. They are left outside overnight over an altar with the belief that they come back and eat some of it. It is of a more cultural approach.
For us Americans we cater towards the kids, it is about making it fun for them and really trying to give the a fun, sweet holiday. Our homes our filled with candy that can last up to a year just in time for the next “trick or treat”.
